What to Expect at Your First Visit

When you visit Dentures Plus, expect Dr. Rosenson to give you a complete oral examination. This comprehensive approach helps us to determine your overall dental health, so we can work with you to decide on the best treatment options for your individual needs.

At your first visit, we’ll take a series of x-rays in order to complete a thorough examination. After reviewing these digital images, Dr. Rosenson will ask you a series of questions about your dental and medical history, as well as about any dental issues you may be experiencing. Then, we’ll perform a comprehensive oral examination and suggest treatment plan options.

Tooth Decay

The most common reason for dentist visits, tooth decay results in cavities, or holes in the teeth where enamel has worn away. You can help prevent tooth decay by:

  • Brushing your teeth at least twice per day
  • Flossing every day
  • Avoiding foods with a high sugar content
  • Visiting your dentist and oral hygienist regularly

Gum Disease

Gum disease – or periodontal disease — is the number one cause of adult tooth loss. Known as gingivitis in its early stages, gum disease is caused by a build-up of bacteria that leads to infection. Over time, this results in swollen, bleeding and painful gums, as well as tooth loss.

In its early stages, gingivitis isn’t usually painful, so many people don’t notice they have a problem until it’s well advanced. Fortunately, regular visits to the dentist and good oral hygiene can help prevent and treat gum disease and reduce the risk of tooth loss.

Bad Breath

Bad breath, or halitosis, is one of the most common reasons behind visits to the dentist. Bad breath is frequently caused by:

  • Gum disease
  • Smoking
  • Diet
  • Inadequate brushing and flossing
  • Dry Mouth

You can help prevent bad breath by brushing and flossing frequently and thoroughly, using a tongue scraper, drinking adequate amounts of water, and chewing sugar-free gum.

Enamel Erosion

When teeth regularly come in contact with acidic or sugary foods or liquids, the enamel can erode or wear away. When left untreated, tooth erosion may lead to sensitive, painful teeth, infections and an increased risk of tooth loss.

To prevent enamel erosion:

  • Avoid food and drinks with a high sugar content
  • When drinking acidic drinks, such as fruit juices, or sugary drinks, such as soda, use a straw
  • Practice good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth regularly
  • Schedule regular dental check-ups and teeth cleaning

Sensitive Teeth

Another common complaint, sensitive teeth, is often triggered when cold, hot or sweet liquids or foods come in contact with teeth. Sometimes, brushing and flossing can exacerbate these feelings of sensitivity.

Dr. Rosenson may recommend fluoride treatments to strengthen tooth enamel and reduce sensitivity. At home, you may want to choose a toothpaste specially designed for sensitive teeth.

Dry Mouth

In a healthy mouth, saliva reduces debris from food and keeps bacteria at bay. Patients with reduced saliva flow, also known as dry mouth, may experience a range of symptoms, such as bad breath, sore throat and feelings of hoarseness. Dry mouth can also lead to dry nasal passages and problems with swallowing.

Dry mouth is often caused by other medical issues; certain medications can cause or exacerbate dry mouth, as can smoking or chewing tobacco products. Our team can discuss different treatment plans with you.

Savings

We offer significant savings to patients who need extractions and require an immediate denture. For one complete package payment you will receive an immediate denture, and then a permanent denture after the healing is complete and all necessary adjustments are made.
